Collecting, identifying and mounting flowers and leaves broadens David’s appreciation for the natural beauty surrounding him, as well as the cycle of the seasons in the Hudson Valley. Tuesday, September 9 from 6:30 to 8pm
In this two-hour class, we will cover: Romance Subgenres; popular tropes; the seven beats of romantic comedy; why writing love scenes is a lot like writing fight scenes; and when and how to break the “rules” or conventions of the genre. Bring your notebook, as we will be doing writing exercises in class.

Thursday, September 11 from 7 to 8pm
An Olympic athlete. An award-winning novelist. A successful entrepreneur. All raised under one roof. What can we learn from those families whose children aim high and succeed, sometimes in widely varied fields? Acclaimed New York Times journalist Susan Dominus offers compelling profiles of six families in search of the factors that led to their success, weaving together story with centuries of scientific research to explore the ongoing question of nature versus nurture.

Thursday, September 18 from 6:30 to 8pm
Join Rebecca Echevarria, a local artist and food preserver, for a presentation on the vast histories of pickling, diverse practices of pickling from around the world, and three popular pickling methods, including fermenting, quick-pickling, and canning. Particular recipes using each method will be highlighted. A pickling demonstration will round out the presentation.

Saturday, September 20 from 4:30 to 5:30pm
Multi-instrumentalist Dennis Lichtman and guitarist Matt Munisteri perform a vast swath of acoustic music from 1920s jazz to folk to Caribbean biguine to ragtime to Italian polka to Brazilian choro to blues and more… all the while asking (and answering) the question “What do these all have in common?”
