travel sketching

Wednesdays, June 10th & 17th, 6-8pm

This workshop invites participants to rediscover their everyday surroundings with the curiosity of a traveler. Using a sketchbook as our companion, we combine drawing, writing, and simple visual notes to document the places we pass every day–streets, plants, buildings, objects, and small encounters. Through guided exercises and short walks, participants learn easy ways to capture observations, map their surroundings, and turn ordinary moments into personal sketchbook pages. Each session helps the participants develop attention, memory, and confidence in recording their experience on paper. All levels welcome.Ā Ā

cuba

Monday, June 15th, 2-3pm

Artist, photographer and muralist FRANC PALAIA visited Cuba in 2013 and 2018 with a mission to discover the real Cuba separate from politics, propaganda and myth. His first 10 day trip was focused on visitingĀ working organic farms that grow tobacco, vegetables, sugar cane and raise livestock. Franc’s second 10 day trip to Cuba concentrated on visiting several artist studios, art schools, and museums. He also photographed the spectacular but dilapidated and eclectic classical architecture and documented over 100 contemporary murals, graffiti, and street art that tell the unique story of one of the last truly socialist countries in the world.

getting organized 6/18

Thursday, June 18th, 6:30-8pm

If you struggle with maintaining multiple calendars, to-do lists of every kind, and all the flotsam floating around in your brain, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! If you wonder to yourself, “Do I maybe have ADHD?” or you just know that you need a better way to remember things and improve your organizational habits, come learn about a simple and flexible system that just might change your life. Bullet journaling brings everything into one place and helps you make meaning of it. Baby steps encouraged. Our director, Jaclyn, started bullet journaling almost a year ago and is excited to share what a huge difference it has made for her. We’ll have journals available for purchase, or bring your own.

Monday, June 29th, 3-4:30pm

Co-led by Bard LLI’s technology expert Collin Lovas and librarian Michelle Montalbano, this discussion will help you get up to speed on the best ways to “minimize your attack surface” online. We’ll cover ways to keep your data safe and secure, protect your identity, common scams and frauds and how to identify them, and more. This class is designed to arm participants with reliable, up-to-date information from credible sources–so we will also do some myth-busting as necessary. Bring your questions!
