COVID Vaccine Help

Starr Library realized that our community of older adults might have trouble finding vaccination appointments. We contacted Rhinebeck Responds, a local organization formed to help the Rhinebeck community during COVID.

As partners, we have made immense strides. We found a volunteer to be the Project Coordinator. We then advertised in newsletters and on FB for volunteers to help make appointments and for people in need to contact us. We have a vaccine request form linked to our Coordinator, and The Village of Rhinebeck offered a phone line for those without internet to contact us. Once the form is submitted or a name is taken from a phone call, our Coordinator calls to access their needs. He then assigns them a volunteer to work on finding an appointment. Rhinebeck Responds is offering transportation to appointments when needed.

We are about to start a Spanish Language link. With help from the high school Spanish teacher, his class is translating our form into Spanish. This link will be offered on Spanish FB pages and through Culture Connect. Fliers are made in English and Spanish, and we expect to hand them out through our local food pantries.

After operating for just a week so far, we have 45 requests for help and 9 volunteers, including a Spanish-speaking person. Volunteers are continuing to work on appointments, and we have totaled at least 16 people vaccinated.
