A Note to Our Most Dedicated Supporters

This invitation is extended to a select group of friends who have shown extraordinary commitment to Starr Library over the years. We are grateful for your presence in our community, and we are asking for your help.

What Happened

Last fall, our community voted overwhelmingly to increase the Library’s annual funding by $82,000, continuing to affirm our role as a place where people of all ages come to learn, connect, and grow. Unfortunately, the tax increase was not collected by the Town, leaving us with a budget shortfall for the first time in our collective memory.

The Town offered to loan the Library $72,000, to be repaid over three years. After careful consideration, and because of the generous support our community has pledged in recent weeks, the Library Board voted to decline the Town’s offer, in order to allow the Town to use its discretionary funds more broadly.

The Library’s priority continues to be our commitment to sustaining the full range of services our community relies on.

The Ask

We ask that you please consider making a personally meaningful gift to Starr Library at this important moment.

Two generous patrons have stepped forward with a $15,000 matching gift. Every donation gets us closer to our goal and will be matched dollar for dollar.

We are hoping to raise the full $82,000 needed to keep Starr Library on solid financial ground and honor what our community voted for in November.

Join Us on June 25

We would love to see you at Foster’s Coach House to celebrate what we have already accomplished and chart our path forward from here. In addition to food, drinks, and camaraderie, the evening will include a talk by Dr. Thomas S. Wermuth about the American Revolution in New York.

If you are unable to attend, please let us know so we can extend an invitation to another supporter. We will miss you but a donation in any amount is just as meaningful. Every gift brings us closer to making our community whole.
