Notes from Rhinebeck Historical Society
August 2024

How do you visualize “the good old days” from 1890-1920 in Rhinebeck? Photos, paintings and maps hold a prominent place in the Archives and remain some of my favorites. I imagined being “right there” as I viewed the Robert Asher Collection of glass plate negatives and could not resist researching to find a few other gems in the archives!

I walked around the village and saw two ladies and a man at rest next to their bicycles and two men camping in a pole tent. In each instance, I wanted to join in the fun. Perhaps the bicyclists planned a refreshing cool drink, ice cream and chocolate cake and the campers their next adventure in Ferncliff Forest

When I turned the corner to head home, I came across this little boy with a little dog waiting for me to pass! Are they up to some mischief, or have they just shared a secret?

Time travel when you explore more in the Robert Asher Collection of eighty six glass plate negatives.

See you in September!
