This summer’s theme inspires us to consider the talents, interests, and feelings we each contribute to the rainbow of experiences that Color Our World. Through events in the visual and performing arts, we hope that children will experience new ways of engaging with their creative mind. We’ll encourage children to look deep within themselves so that they can discover their feelings and interests, and to stand proudly in their identities by highlighting personal style and self-expression.
All summer long, we’ll be creating opportunities for children of all ages to have fun and enjoy putting their own flair on the world!

Do you love to shake your groove thing when your favorite song comes on? You’re not alone, because people all over the world love to dance! Come join us for a workshop exploration of global dance styles with Irish dance teacher Leighann Kowalsky, Bollywood dance teacher Arobi Hanif, and Tango dance teacher Ellen Chrystal. We’ll spend time learning each style over the course of the event.
Saturday, August 9th, 1-2:30pm
There are so many ways to craft your own stamps and prints, and at this workshop, we’ll be exploring three fun ones you can use to customize your own stationery, bookmarks, and more! Local artist Gina Palmer will be teaching us how to use erasers, potatoes, and woodblocks to make stamps that can print on almost anything.
Tuesday, August 12th at Dusk
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in the control center inside Riley’s mind, and although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school. Watching this beloved Pixar film will be a great way to get ready for our next program about feeling your feelings–all of them, even the scary and challenging ones!
Saturday, August 16th, 1-2:30pm
As we prepare for summer to end and the new school year to begin, we’ll all have a lot of feelings to process. Come to Starr to find some healthy coping mechanisms to get you ready for the next wonderful year of learning ahead. We’ll make DIY fidget toys and a hope kit that you can fill with all of the things that bring you hope and joy, that way you’ll have them close when you need it most. This is our 2025 Color Our World Summer Reading season closeout event!
Sunday, August 17th, 2:30-3:30pm
Come celebrate a successful summer of reading your pants off! No matter whether you read 10 books or 110, you’re welcome to come have a fun afternoon of ice cream and facepainting with us at the library. Ice cream is being generously donated by Del’s Roadside of Rhinebeck and facepainting and hair glitter provided by Leatrice! (Please register so we have enough ice cream.)
Reading Challenge
To promote a gentle reading challenge, children will have the opportunity to customize their own reading log bookmark.
For every 5 books read, participants will receive a sticker at the circulation desk. Children ages 1-8 must read 50 books to fill their log, and children 9-14 must read 15 books. The more books you read, the closer you are to earning a ticket to our end-of-season ice cream party!
Books that tie into each event’s theme will be on display alongside the main calendar of programs in the Children’s Wing.
