We are always looking for community members who want to get involved in the Starr. We utilize the skills and interests of residents to make our library a better place.
Students may be able to help the library by completing their school’s community service requirement with us. Retirees can volunteer to help others. The Friends of the Library holds booksales that need staff. Find out about the Friends group here.
Do you have a special interest or experience? Perhaps you could lead a program at the Starr.
To make a donation to the Starr, please call Director Steven Cook at 845.876.4030.
We depend on donations to make up the difference between our public support, and our total budget. We appreciate your support as we grow- that’s what makes it all possible.
Checks may be made payable to “Starr Library.” We are not currently able to accept credit card donations.
Financial bequests are an important source of funding for our operating fund, as well as our endowment as we plan for the future. Gifts of appreciated stock may also be donated to the library. Please contact Steven Cook for additional information if you would like to consider the Starr Library in your estate plans.
leave a legacy
One of the best ways to make a donation to the Starr Library is to leave a legacy gift. For information, please contact Board of Trustees President Sue Hartshorn at 845.876.6670 or Director Steven Cook at 845.876.4030.
We are always looking for good books… but…. They must be in good condition. They cannot be torn, mildewed, soiled or otherwise beaten up. We are unable to accept textbooks, condensed books, encyclopedias, travel, test prep books or magazines. We cannot sell books you would not want to buy.
Please give us a call to discuss donating books and other materials. We will make arrangements to receive your donations. Please DO NOT leave books in our lobby.
Books are examined to see if they would be useful in our collection. Titles not needed upstairs are sent to the Friends’ book sales.
We can use recent fiction, non-fiction, classics, art books, paperbacks, DVDs, music CDs, books on CD and local interest titles.
Thank you for assisting us. See the calendar [LINK TO CALENDAR] for upcoming book sales and other Friends of the Library events.
The achievement of the goals of the Starr Library is best achieved by the active participation of the citizens of the community. To this end, we accept and encourage the involvement of volunteers at all levels of the organization and within all programs and activities.
We need help with such things as planning/hosting programs, keeping our shelves in order, staffing book sales, circulating books, teaching senior citizens about the Internet and gardening.
For students in need of community service to complete academic requirements, we may be able to assist.
To find out about becoming a volunteer, please stop in or contact Director Steven Cook at 845.876.4030.
