Racing Through History
Hell-on-Wheels! Known as “The Rhinebeck Express”, Bob Tator was the featured driver on the cover of the 1950 Rhinebeck Speedway Stock Car Races program. Check out the Archives- The Mary & Vernon Sipperley Collection of Midget Auto Races and the Racing Stock Cars to view fifty two racing programs dating from 1948 to 1951.
From racing midget cars and stock cars to performing as the Keystone Cop and showman at Cole Palen’s Aerodrome, World War II veteran Bob Tator (1924-2000) entertained. In 1949, “here at Rhinebeck he was the third ranking high point man and in a never to be forgotten finish nipped Jokko Maggiacomo at the wire to annex the Hudson Valley Championship.”
Bring back the excitement of going to the races when you view “Racing through History” on the RHS YouTube channel.
There are many reasons to check out the programs for the Rhinebeck Speedway: pencilled in rosters for each event, Announcer Jim Cranna’s descriptions of the featured drivers and the advertisements.
Some All American Classic snacks at the track can’t be beat! Especially at 1950 prices!
